Cheers for Charles! King is greeted by applause as he visits London bank

King Charles received a warm welcome this afternoon as he arrived at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s new headquarters in London.

The monarch, 74, was greeted with a round of applause from staff this afternoon as he entered the organisation’s new Canary Wharf premises.

In footage captured by the Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English, the King looked delighted at the reception and raised his hand to wave to the crowd.

After giving royal fans a small nod, Charles then said ‘thank you’ before shaking hands with senior staff members across the room.

Following this, he then proceeded to greet members of the crowd – with one even flying a Union Jack.

During his first visit to the company’s head office, the King – who is a longtime environmental campaigner – will learn about the bank’s green initiatives. 

As part of the organisation’s Green Economy Transition project, they are helping countries around the world ‘pursue a green, inclusive and resilient recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.’

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is also aiming to become majority green bank before the end of 2025. 

What’s more, the royal was also introduced to employees from Turkey, who have been affected by the devastating earthquakes last month. 

Shortly after Turkey and Syria were hit by earthquakes last month, the MailOnline revealed that the King and Queen Consort had made personal donations to the UK’s relief fund. 

Meanwhile, the monarch – who has been fiercely opposed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – also met Ukrainian employees at the London-based bank today. 

The organisation also has an office in Kyiv. However, the company was forced to evacuate their staff to Warsaw in Poland following the outbreak of war.

King Charles’ warm welcome today comes as he was greeted by a mixture of boos and cheers during his visit to Colchester with the Queen Consort earlier this month.

Earlier this month, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla were greeted by a mix of boos and cheers as they arrived at Colchester Castle to mark its recently awarded city status

Crowds of well-wishers had gathered to greet the monarch, who had travelled to Colchester, Essex, to mark its newly awarded city status.

But among them were anti-monarch protesters who waved ‘Not My King’ banners and shouted at the Royal to ‘come over and talk to your critics’.

The protest is the latest to be organised by anti-monarchy campaign group Republic, who have vowed to hold a series of protests in the run up to and on the Coronation.

Last month, there were similar protesters in Milton Keynes as King Charles visited, with around 20 protesters waving signs and booing.
