Billionaire Gretel Packer splashes out $9million on an Art Deco home in Sydney she plans to turn into a ‘mega-penthouse’

Billionaire Gretel Packer has spent a whopping $9million on a spectacular penthouse in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Located atop the Art Deco-inspired Macleay Regis building in fashionable Potts Point, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment boasts amazing harbour views and adjoins the sprawling pad Packer, 57, bought in 2017 for $8.75million.

The philanthropist daughter of the late media tycoon Kerry Packer now wants to create a mega-penthouse from the two flats, reports the Wentworth Courier.

The 350 sqm apartment Packer purchased five ago features three bedrooms and three bedrooms.

Packer sealed the deal on her new place this week.

Once merged, the two flats will make one huge 865sqm penthouse, which will cover the entire top deck of the apartment block.

A charming mix of 1930s elegance and modern luxury, Packer’s new flat boasts a gorgeous original fireplace, wood finishings and beautiful parquetry floors.

Highlights include soaring interiors with floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the living areas, as well as an expansive kitchen.

Built in 1938, the Macleay Regis block was based on the famous Rockefeller Center in New York City.

His family created a sub-penthouse from the existing apartment after he died in 1947.

Packer’s new flat was purchased from London-based banker Greg Peacock.

It comes after Packer made a failed $22million bid on two adjoining penthouse apartments in the Kings Cross luxury block Omnia in 2019.
