- A bride-to-be says she almost burned her house down
- She was trying to make her invites at home
A bride-to-be has confessed to ‘almost burning her house down’ after attempting to make her own wedding invites at home.
Em Lucin was doing well, and had even decided to make a tutorial to help others, then it came time to seal the invites.
Instead of using pre-melted wax and a stamp she attempted to heat gold wax tubes, meant to be used in a hot glue gun, with a match.
‘I thought I was doing such a good job until I nearly burned my house down,’ she said.
The Melbourne-based bride -to-be was almost finished making the invites, after printing them, cutting each piece with a guillotine.
Bride-to-be Em Lucin, pictured here with her future husband Marcus, said she almost burned down her house making wedding invitations
‘This is where it all went down hill and I almost burnt my entire office down,’ she said.
But appeared confused when her gold wax didn’t melt properly. She then burnt her finger before going off camera to huff and puff in pain.
Her invite ended up with a few unsightly burns from the match and a blob of wax in the wrong spot.
‘Hopefully I can figure this out,’ she said.
People were quick to point out where she went wrong.
‘You need to put the hot glue in a hot glue gun so it will melt,’ one woman said.
The young woman’s tutorial was going well
Em said she almost burned her office down when she attempted to melt the wax sticks with a match
Others said there were other ways to get the job done.
‘You can get a hot glue gun or want to save break your wax into smaller pieces, place a piece in a metal spoon and can have a candle or lighter underneath to melt wax, pour on paper and stamp,’ one woman suggested.
Some thanked her for admitting DIY didn’t go to plan.
‘Thank you for a realistic DIY where there’s mistakes and problem solving,’ one woman said.
‘As a fellow DIY bride I’ve been struggling with feeling like everything I do is wrong when it doesn’t work out immediately,’ she added.
In the tutorial Em explains why she chose each type of paper for her invites, as well as how she printed them to ‘avoid wastage’.
People have commended her efforts and thanked her for the helpful tutorial despite her painful mistake.
