Ed Sheeran made concert history on Friday when he performed to 110,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground – breaking his own record in the process.

The huge crowd is the largest audience to appear at an event at the famous cricket stadium and beats Sheeran’s previous record of 108,000 – from the night before.

The English superstar, 32, had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand as he invited them to singalong to his hit song The A Team.

Sheeran posted footage of the incredible concert to Instagram and captioned it with some sweet words.

‘Played the biggest show of my life on Thursday to 108,000 people in Melbourne, breaking that record on Friday with 110,000 people coming to the MCG,’ he wrote.

‘This really is a dream come true, what an incredible venue.’

Many of Sheeran’s 42.5million followers were quick to congratulate him on the milestone achievement. 

‘Extraordinary’ gushed Bachelor Girl’s Tania Doko and American rapper Macklemore wrote ‘amazing brother… magic’.

It comes after Sheeran delivered a moving tribute to his late friend Shane Warne when he performed at the MCG on Thursday evening.

The hitmaker told the packed crowd it was an emotional experience to perform at the cricket stadium where his late pal Shane spent so much time.

Shane’s three children were in the crowd watching Sheeran and daughter Summer, 21, shared a video to Instagram of Ed’s touching words.

Speaking to the crowd, Ed said: ‘Being here tonight is hard without Shane as this venue was really special to him.’

He then said he was dedicating his next song ‘to Shane and his kids’.
