A resurfaced image of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson has added fuel to the actor’s recent claims that they could be related.
The Oscar winner, 53, had previously shared his suspicions that his mother Mary had a sexual encounter with Woody’s hitman father Charles, after she made a cryptic remark about knowing the late convict.
And in an unearthed snap of the longterm friends Matthew and Woody, taken in 2019, show an eery resemblance after starring in the Apple TV+ comedy series Brother From Another Mother.
Speaking on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Matthew admitted his mother’s remark about Woody’s father, who died in prison in 2007, prompted him to investigate his family history, but they’re reluctant to take a DNA test.
He said: ‘You know, where I start and where he ends, and where he starts and I end, has always been like a murky line. And that’s part of our bromance, right?

‘My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.’
‘In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families. And my mom is there, and she says, “Woody, I knew your dad.” Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after “knew”. It was a loaded K-N-E-W.
‘We went on to unpack what this “knew” meant, and did some math and found out that [Woody’s] dad was on furlough at the same time that my mom and dad were in their second divorce.
‘Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a “knew” moment.’
The Interstellar star added in the podcast: ‘Look, it’s a little easier for Woody to say, “Come on, let’s do [DNA tests],” because what’s the skin in it for him?’
‘It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance to go, “Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad may not be my dad after 53 years of believing that?” I got a little more skin in the game.’
While Woody’s father Charles passed away 16 years ago in his cell from a heart attack, the woman believed to be his mother, Diane Lou Oswald, is still alive.
Charles was sentenced to life in prison for the fatal shooting of Judge Wood Jr in San Antonio, Texas in 1979, and Woody regularly visited him until his death aged 69.

Pals: Matthew made the revelation in a recent interview as he and Woody, who are longtime friends, prepare to star in the Apple TV+ comedy series Brother From Another Mother
Of his father, Woody said said: ‘He is one of the most articulate, well-read charming people I’ve ever known.
‘Still, I’m just now gauging whether he merits my loyalty or friendship. I look at him as someone who could be a friend more than someone who was a father.’
Matthew and Woody are set to star alongside their families in the new Apple TV+ series.
The show will focus on the ‘strange and beautiful bond’ between the pair, who play themselves in the series, producers said in a synopsis.
The friendship between the Texas-born stars will be ‘tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.’
Both appeared on eight episodes of the Emmy-winning HBO crime drama True Detective in 2014.
McConaughey played the role of Detective Rust Cohle, with Harrelson portraying Detective Marty Hart on the lauded TV series.
Both actors were nominated in 2014 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for their efforts as the Louisiana State Police detectives on the series.
The show was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series that year, with both as the executive producers.
The longtime friends have also appeared in three comedy films together, including 1998’s Welcome to Hollywood, 1999’s EDtv and 2008’s comedy Surfer Dude.
