In eerie flashback scenes, it was confirmed that the Underworld manager had murdered his business associate Rufus by drowning him in his swimming pool.
With Stephen (played by Todd Boyce) officially becoming a serial killer after claiming his third victim, viewers have began switching off as they urged for the storyline to come to its conclusion.
Fans claim that the plot has been ‘dragged out’ too long, with one bored viewer even tweeting: ‘Let me know when Stephen leaves and I will rewatch again!’
However, Stephen’s reign of terror could be soon coming to an end as some fans have spotted a major clue that could potential lead to his downfall.
He strikes again: Coronation Street viewers have begged for the Stephen Reid killer storyline to end as his latest victim was revealed in Friday’s episode
Shocking: In eerie flashback scenes, it was confirmed that the Underworld manager had murdered his business associate Rufus by drowning him in his swimming pool
A previous episode left fans guessing over the fate of Rufus (Steven Meo), with many suspecting that killer Stephen had bumped him off.
And Friday’s installment confirmed their theories as a flashback scene, which occurred during his chat with Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell), showed exactly how Stephen killed Rufus.
After an earlier fallout, Stephen had headed over to Rufus’ luxury home to seemingly sort things out, with Rufus unaware that his actually had murderous intentions in mind.
With his own narration heard over the scene as he shared his business knowledge with his new junior manager Michael, Rufus could be seen in shock as he opened the door to Stephen – having expected Michael to visit about his job.
Stephen is heard saying: ‘We’ll do this properly… First thing’s first, you identify your target. You take the initiative, you don’t want for them to come to you.’
The scenes continue to play out showing Stephen drugging Rufus with LSD before pushing him into his swimming pool.
The cinematic scenes show a drugged up Rufus struggling in the water and begging Stephen for help, who goes on to coldly hold the businessman’s head under the water and ending his life.
With his third victim under his belt and with Corrie residents still unaware of his dastardly ways, fed-up Corrie fans took to Twitter to complain about the character in their drives.

However, some eagle-eyed watchers have noticed a key detail that could potentially lead to Stephen finally getting his comeuppance.
Some viewers spotted that Stephen was wearing a tie pin when he’d arrived at Rufus’ home, but was no longer wearing after he’d pushed him in the pool.
Taking to Twitter, some speculated that this could be a key piece of evidence if found by the police that could heavily link the criminal to Rufus’ death.
‘Stephen was wearing a tie pin when he arrived at Rufus house & he was no longer wearing it after Rufus was in the pool…. Bookmark this tweet.’ speculated one.
A second wrote: ‘Stephen’s tiepin went missing between him and Rufus being around the pool and Rufus drowning. That will probably be Stephen’s downfall which would sum up this ridiculous storylines, and would show that the viewers are better detectives than PC Crutch Tinker.’
