I’m a Celebrity Australia 2023: Shock claims reality show is ‘fixed’

Shock claims I’m a Celebrity is ‘fixed’ as star says her contract included a stipulation that Channel 10 can ‘pick a winner regardless of the votes’

A former I’m Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star has alleged the Channel 10 show is ‘fixed’, claiming a clause in her contract gave the network the ability to pick a winner – regardless of who the public voted for.

Ajay Rochester entered the South African jungle in 2019, and is convinced the series is rigged in favour of pre-determined winners.

The ex-Biggest Loser host, 54, shared supposed details from her contract in a TikTok video over the weekend, alleging there was a detail in the small print saying Ten had final say on the order of elimination during her season.

This is despite the fact eliminations are supposed to be decided by public vote.

‘In the contract, it says in very tiny little writing right at the end that Channel 10 can choose to elect a winner regardless of the votes,’ Rochester said in the video.

‘It also says Channel 10 can decide when the contestants are eliminated – with or without the voting,’ she added.

Rochester went on to question the longevity of certain I’m a Celebrity contestants, suggesting that contracted Channel 10 talent are allowed to stay longer, even if they are not popular with viewers.

She also noted that celebrity chefs tend to make it to the end because they’re the ones cooking for their campmates, giving them an essential role.

‘Have you ever noticed that the chef lasts almost all the way through? The chef that feeds all the people. Have you ever noticed that it’s predominantly Channel 10 current talent that make it all the way through?’ she asked.

She suspected Love Island star Justin Lacko – who also appeared on the 2019 season of I’m a Celebrity – was being groomed for a role on The Bachelor, which was one of Ten’s tentpole reality shows at the time.

But she claimed his poor behaviour made it impossible for the network to follow through and make him a winner – although she believes he was edited favourably to maintain a positive public image.

‘He got so lucky with [the] edit. He was a disgustingly pathetic, spoiled little baby… They painted him very well because I think they really did truly want him to be the Bachelor,’ Rochester said.

Rochester even went as far as to say one challenge was rigged for Lacko to win, ensuring he had a record ten victories in a row.

She believes this was done to create a compelling storyline.

Rochester also revealed that all contestants are paid handsomely to appear on the show, and it’s not purely for charity.

In her case, she only took part so she had the money to apply for her American green card, or permanent residency.

‘Every single celebrity is getting paid and raising money for a charity. So they’re not doing it for charity; they’re doing it for money,’ she said.
