Shoppers looking to save a buck on groceries find a bargain supermarket selling items for a fraction of the price
- Melbournians are loving Cheaper By Miles
- The store sells heavily discounted groceries
Bargain-hunting shoppers have discovered a little-known supermarket that sells groceries for a fraction of the price in the middle of a major Australian city.
Cheaper By Miles, a grocery store in three locations across Melbourne that sells goods close to or just past their best-before date.
Customers are flocking to the retailer for its ultra-cheap prices on items including cheese, oat milk, alcohol-free drinks, toiletries, ready-made meals and more.
They source their stock from suppliers who would otherwise throw it out for being so close to its expiry date and sell it at a heavily-discounted price.
Shoppers are obsessing over the one-of-a-kind store for its ultra low prices amid the rising cost of living including Claire Fastuca who called the bargain retailer ‘insane’.

‘If you aren’t doing your grocery shopping at Cheaper By Miles you are missing out,’ Claire said in a TikTok video.
Claire, who blogs about food finds from all over Melbourne, was shocked by the super-low prices.
She found oat milk for $1 per carton as well as pea snap chips for $2 a bag, and Dove and Schwarzkopf shampoos for just $3 each all because they are nearing their best-before date.
‘When I say close by the use-by date I mean like two, three months, four months, five months,’ she explained.

Claire found a pack of Cadbury Easter eggs for just $3.50 which she said are on sale at other supermarkets for more than $5.
She also picked up some oat milk and a whole bottle of fabric softener for just $1 each as well as six bottles of kombucha for $6.
‘This place is just insane…go, you’ve got to go,’ she said.
Viewers were wowed by Claire’s grocery find and thanked her for the information while some were sad to see the secret spilled.
‘Shhh don’t tell anyone,’ one woman said.
‘Holy s***, this is cheaper than the reject shop!’ a second replied.

‘Got all my Easter eggs and bunnies from them this year,’ a customer wrote and another said: ‘I drive 45 mins each way just to go here every couple of weeks. I love this place’.
‘It’s mostly ‘best before’ stuff not ‘use by’,’ someone added.
