Furious parents slam ‘selfish woman’ for admitting she doesn’t want ‘mum’ friends: ‘I don’t want my social life to hinge on your kids’ bedtime routine’
- Danni Duncan says she doesn’t want kids
- She explained why she’d rather have child-free friends
A child-free woman has sparked a heated discussion after she explained why she prefers to make friends with people who don’t have kids.
Danni Duncan has built up a large online following for sharing her life as a child-free married woman in her thirties.
She said there is ‘nothing wrong’ with having friends who are parents, as she has many herself, but she likes spending time with those without kids who have a similar lifestyle to her.
Her hot takes have had some parents up in arms however many fellow child-free viewers agree.
‘Every time I talk about child-free people wanting to have child-free friends I get this type of reaction from the mums,’ Danni said in response to a comment left on one of her videos.

She said there is ‘nothing wrong’ with having friends who are parents, as she has many herself, but she likes spending time with those without kids who have a similar lifestyle to her
‘What’s wrong with having friends with children? I don’t get this, I feel it’s very judgemental towards parents!’ a mum wrote.
Danni, who is from New Zealand, clarified there was ‘nothing’ wrong with having friends with children as she has many of her own.
Despite not wanting children, Danni has plenty of parent friends, often sees her young nieces and used to work with kids as a Speech Language and Behaviour Therapist.
‘I think a key thing that people are missing is that we’re choosing to be child-free, choosing to have a lifestyle that doesn’t include children in it,’ she explained in a TikTok clip.
‘So when all of our friends have children well you can see how that doesn’t really match up.’
Danni clarified wanting to have child-free friends does not mean she doesn’t want to be around her friends with kids but that it’s easier to organise get-togethers with those without.
‘It would be really great to have friends that are choosing the same lifestyle as us so that we don’t have to work out our social times around bed times, around eating times, around school holidays,’ she said.
Thousands of viewers applauded Danni for hitting back at her critics with one pointing out: ‘Same way new mums want other mum friends’.
Danni hit back after people slammed her for making her child-free lifestyle her ‘whole personality’. She said she creates ‘niche’ content for an online community of child-free people
‘My friends with children are usually too busy to hang out. Not their fault, but I would like friends I can actually spend time with,’ a second replied.
‘Completely normal, need friends that have things in common,’ wrote a third.
‘How dare we want friends we relate to!’ joked a fourth.
Danni also had to defend herself after people slammed her for making her child-free lifestyle her ‘whole personality’.
She said she has used her platform to create a community for child-free people online and it is no different to mum bloggers.
‘In case you weren’t aware people on social media do this thing called having a niche where they create a community around specific topics,’ she said.
‘You know how sometimes there are mum influencers, mum-tok parenting content? This is like that but there’s no kids involved.’
