Influencer breaks down in tears after act of kindness rejected

A woman has been left in tears after her plan to pay for strangers’ food shopping ended in complete disaster.

Amelia Goldsmith, from London, took to TikTok to invite her followers along as she went to her local supermarket in search of strangers who may need a helping hand.

She waited in the wings eyeing up the best person to approach, but her efforts to help were repeatedly declined, with one man asking ‘why?’ before adding, ‘no, no, no we don’t need it’, with Amelia adding that he ‘looked angry’.

The fitness influencer was left in tears in the car park, admitting she’d expected someone to be ‘overjoyed’ by her efforts.

It echoes the saga of Autralian influencer Harrison Pawluk, who boasted a shopper was ‘just SO happy’ with the bunch of flowers he gave her for a viral video – before she publicly contradicted him saying she felt ‘dehumanised’.

On her way to Sainsbury’s, Amelia told the camera of her plans to buy someone’s food shop because ‘I just want to cheer someone up.’

Although excited about her selfless scheme, she had a few reservations and wondered if passers-by would brand her a ‘weirdo’ or ignore her altogether.

Her actions divided opinions, as some took to the post to reveal what they would do if approached, while others praised her for her brave efforts.

She said on TikTok: ‘This is the result of me doing something very nice and wanting to buy someone’s food shop. I just felt super deflated and this is the video showing it all.’

She continued: ‘So I am here at Sainsbury’s, I’m going to buy someone’s food shop today because it’s Wednesday – I just wanna cheer someone up. Mid week slump.’

‘Guys I’m nervous. I just hope they don’t look at me thinking like I’m some weirdo. I’m scared.’

Amelia then enters Sainsbury’s and is subsequently rejected by everyone she approaches.

‘Everyone is staring and I don’t know what to do,’ she said after her first attempt was rejected by a man who looked angry.

Elsewhere a woman’s voice could be heard sounding flustered and saying ‘no’, when Amelia made her offer, prompting the influencer to say: ‘I feel so embarassed and judged’.

On her next attempt, a woman told her: ‘There’s a lot more deserving people in this world but thank you. I feel too guity for taking it.’

‘I’m sure you’ve done some good in the world,’ Amelia ventured, but was rejected again.

Returning to the camera, she said: ‘That was stressful guys. That was really stressful. I felt really like in panic mode.’

‘I don’t know. I felt like I was expecting someone to be, you know like overjoyed and grateful and happy for me to pay for their shopping. But obviously that didn’t go down well.’

‘I was a little bit like taken aback. I think I’m going to cry to be honest. And like the second person looked at me like I was some kind of absolute idiot and weirdo. She didn’t say anything. But she was really like “no, no, no” sort of stern.’

Nevertheless, Amelia was committed to the cause, no matter how ‘stressful’, and instead loaded up a food bank with multiple items including dried pasta and cooking sauces – but her tears continued to pour throughout the video.

She continued: ‘I’m going to cry. I’m just really overwhelmed right now. It was a big challenge for me because I find social situations really hard, especially when I’m bringing lots of attention to myself. I don’t like that.’

But viewers were quick to point out something Amelia might have missed.

One said: ‘Such a lovely gesture. But advice would be not to go to Balham where most people live in £1m plus houses.’

Another advised: ‘Sainsbury’s is way too middle class. go to Asda/Aldi/Iceland where people will really need it.’

Commenters were left divided with some praising Amelia for her kind gesture, while others said they would not like the be approached and filmed so that she can get more likes on TikTok

A third agreed: ‘It probably didn’t work because of the type of clientele that particular area has. People in my area would be extremely grateful for this.’

Meanwhile one person said it would make them feel ‘poor’: ‘I personally wouldn’t like it either, the filming puts me off but also I’d think “oh do I look like I’m poor?’

However, Amelia was still praised for her earnest effort as one said: ‘Please don’t let this stop you from trying again or continuing to go out of your way to do kind things in the future. You’re such an angel.’

While another added: ‘Honestly so proud of you for doing that and sharing this. The lesson here is another’s behaviour or response is never a reflection of your goodwill and worth.’

Amelia’s post has been viewed almost 800,000 times and has attracted over 1500 comments.
