Mom-of-three, 45, makes up to $735,000 A YEAR from her Poshmark business

A mother-of-three has revealed that she has been making up to $735,000 a year through her online resale business.

Monette Mejia, from Houston, had been a stay-at-home mom until 2015 when her family found themselves in need of additional income to supplement her husband’s pay.

She began by selling off her own clothes on social commerce marketplace Poshmark before developing the venture into a thriving enterprise.

The 45-year-old is now raking in thousands of dollars by selling new and used clothing, home goods, toys and more via social media – as she encourages others to do the same.

Monette said that 2015 had been a ‘really hard time’ and that the family had been left now knowing ‘where [they were] going to eat.’

Her sister introduced her to Poshmark where she started selling off clothes from her own closet.

The first sale was a dress that sold for $36 just 11 hours after being posted and the money continued to trickle in.

But a short time later the family’s finances took a further hit when Monette’s husband spent 44 days in the ICU.

He was forced to undergo open-heart surgery and was left unable to work.

The mother-of-three became the sole earner and so decided it was time to ramp up her efforts.

She branched out onto other reselling platforms and, according to Insider, the $100 to $200 per week that she had been earning turned into $1,000 per week – translating to $52,000 a year.

Having seen the potential, however, Monette went even further and soon took to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook – as well as selling via livestreams that she hosted three times a week.

And, as her following grew, brands such as Torrid and Target offered her lucrative contracts that then paid her to wear and promote their clothing on social media.

It meant that in 2021 alone she made $735,000 from her endeavors.

The majority of her stock now comes from bulk orders bought at a discounted price from various other vendors.

Her husband has returned to health but, rather than return to his laboring job, he now helps her run her business.

The couple have since been able to buy a six-bedroom home and have sent two of their children to college without student loans.

Speaking about her enterprise, she told the publication: ‘When I talk about everything that we’ve gone through, I’m still shocked about it from where we came from to now.’

And, issuing advice to others, she said: ‘A lot of people see where I’m at right now. And they’re like, “Oh, I want to do that right now.”

‘Yeah, it’s going to happen eventually, but it’s not just going to happen overnight. So I would say don’t give up and just keep listing, keep sharing your closet, be consistent.’

She concluded: ‘We love what we do and the only way to continue to grow is working.’
