Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh nails country chic for visit to school with working farm

The Duchess of Edinburgh nailed casual chic for her visit to Brockhill Performing Arts College, in Hythe, Kent, which has its own working farm on site.

Sophie, 58, was there to present the facility with the LEAF Education Demonstration School Gold Award, and was spotted chatting to staff and students, helping to plant a tree and get up close with some of the animals in residence.

During her visit Sophie also managed to squeeze in a lesson to the the students about family trees, showing off how the Royal succession line works.

Using a whiteboard, the monarch drew little faces, one with a crown to indicate King Charles III, then Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and her own husband, who she called Ed. 

The mum-of-two looked stylish for the educational appointment, wearing an off-white, red and navy check blazer by ME+EM, smart black tailored trousers and dove-grey suede high heel Mary-Janes, which may have not been the wisest choice for the muddy terrain.

Thankfully all the faces were smiling in Sophie’s drawing, although it seems she may have forgotten to add in one of King Charles III sons

Sophie met some of the locals at the farm including this sweet calf who was being groomed by some of the students 

Sophie was there to present the farm with the prestigious gold award from charity LEAF Education, that aims to engage, inspire and motivate young people through work-based learning.

It’s not the first time Sophie has worn the £295 ME+EM jacket, first showcasing it for a public appearance last September when she and Prince Edward visited Preston Market Hall in Birmingham.

Described as a ‘fresh, trans-seasonal pattern that covers soft, midweight tailoring’, the Autumn Puppytooth Boyfriend blazer also comes with matching trousers that are currently in the sale online for just £74.

Thanks to the subtle mix of colours, the single-breasted piece cleverly gives the illusion that it is pink from a distance, perfect to team with the grey shoes.

Sophie added a simple white shirt to finish her look, which she left unbuttoned at the neck.

The newly instated Duchess of Edinburgh wore her highlighted locks in a soft half-up/half-down style that perfectly flattered her pretty features.

Sophie, who is patron of over 70 charities and organisations, added a touch of sparkle to the ensemble with chunky silver drop stud earrings, a thin silver chain and her wedding and engagement rings.

There to present the site with a gold award from LEAF Education, a charity that aims to engage, inspire and motivate young people through work-based learning. 

Their aim is to give future generations a balanced and informed insight into food production, farming and the environment. 

Sophie is a huge advocate for young people, recognising the importance of creating opportunities to enable them to reach their full potential.

The Duchess also got to see how some of the by products from the farm are used to create new ways to make income for the site

Sophie and her team presented the school with the awards and spend some time learning about what the students learned while working on the farm

When it was time to leave a helicopter came to take Sophie and her team away 

At one point during the engagement, Sophie helped out students by getting her hands dirty and planting a tree – all while wearing her suede grey high heels.

The Royal also got to meet some of the animals who live on the farm and shared a tender moment with a young calf who has being groomed by one of the students.

Later on, Sophie watched as some of the younger students learned how to pull sheep wool through a machine in order for it to be turned into yarn. 

Following the visit, the Duchess and her staff left via a waiting helicopter that had landed on the grass to whisk her away.
