A woman who was trying to film a ‘cute’ day-in-the-life video while working from home was left horrified after she accidentally captured the moment she was laid off from her job.
Jen Lucas, from Atlanta, Georgia, decided that she wanted to make a Wes Anderson-style daily vlog for her social media – but the video certainly did not go as planned.
In the midst of recording, Jen actually got fired from her position as a recruiting manager at Amazon – which meant her honest reaction to the sudden loss of her job was caught on film in real time.
She then uploaded the footage to TikTok and it quickly went viral – gaining more than 5.8 million views.

In the midst of recording, Jen actually got fired from her position as a recruiting manager at Amazon – which meant her honest reaction to the sudden loss of her job was caught on film
‘I was trying to film a cute, Wes Anderson-style WFH and accidentally filmed myself getting laid off?’ she began in the TikTok, alongside a video that showed her banging her head against the wall.
She then uploaded the footage to TikTok and it quickly went viral – gaining more than 5.8 million views
She then shared the clips taken earlier in the day, seemingly before she had any idea that she was about to lose her job.
They featured her getting out of bed, brushing her teeth, and making coffee, before she sat down at her desk and started checking her emails.
Suddenly, her eyes widened and she covered her mouth with her hand in horror.
‘Real time opening the email,’ she wrote.
Jen concluded the video by revealing that she took a ‘mental health’ walk with her husband and dog after finding out the news, adding, ‘Onward to better things.’
‘I debated if I should even post this, but if you got laid off too just know you’re not alone,’ she said in the caption.
In a follow-up video, the former Amazon employee explained that she was very ‘shocked’ by the news because she had worked for the company for eight years and thought she was doing well.

‘I’ve been promoted a ton of times. I got promoted twice last year, I had an amazing review just a month ago,’ she explained.
Jen said she believed the firing was ‘not about her performance or who she was as an employee,’ but added that it ‘didn’t make it suck any less.’
She continued: ‘Part of me is glad to be out of this extremely toxic environment but the other part feels like a failure and a disappointment.
‘I hate that I have to tell people I got laid off from my job but that’s life and I’m human.
‘This doesn’t make me any less amazing or valuable or smart. I know I’m gonna land on my feet, I know I’m gonna be fine but this sucks. This is a top 10 bad feeling.’
People quickly flooded the comment section of her original video with their reactions.
Many sent her their support, while some joked that the incident actually made her TikTok seem even more like a Wes movie.

‘This is actually the MOST accurate Wes Anderson video I’ve seen, utter aesthetic tragedy,’ wrote one person.
Despite the many nice messages, Jen did receive some nasty ones too. Jen posted a video responding to someone who ccused her of getting sacked for ‘making s**ty TikToks while you’re supposed to be working.’ She said she filmed the TikTok outside of work hours and encouraged them to have ‘compassion’
‘This is how you do a Wes Anderson properly,’ added another, while someone else said, ‘This is actually peak Wes Anderson.’
‘You thought you were doing a trend but you made a short film. I had emotions,’ read a fourth comment.
‘So sorry about your job, but on the bright side, with the creativity you’ve shown in this perfect video, I’m sure a better job will come to you soon,’ a different user commented.
‘Petition to announce every layoff via trend,’ someone else joked. ‘I’m so sorry bestie but you’ve got this.’
‘This is sad but you still committed. And it turned out beautiful,’ another person gushed.

‘There are 16 hours outside of a 9 to 5 that you can use however you want,’ she responded. ‘You might want to try some compassion, being kind is a better way to live.’
