Martin Lewis reveals how to get a cheaper supermarket shop and FREE food
Martin Lewis has shared two supermarket hacks which could see you get £5 off your next Tesco shopping and snag a free jacket potato at Morrisons this week.
The money saving expert advised how you can use ‘codes’ to shave pounds off your shopping, or treat yourself to a hot meal if need be.
Speaking on his BBC Radio 5 Live podcast, the finance guru kicked the segment off with a deal at UK supermarket giant Tesco.
By using the code GR4PYL at checkout – if you’re doing your shopping online – you could get ‘five pounds off when you spend 15 quid or more on selected frozen food’.
‘There are 150 eligible items including Birds Eye fish fingers, Goodfella’s pizzas, McCain jacket potatoes and Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshires,’ he explained.

‘Which is making me feel rather hungry.’
He continued: ‘You’ll see it when you go to the website – so if you’re dong that anyway you may as well see if you can get a fiver off.’
The savvy spender also shared a tip for how you can get a free hot potato.
‘The next one is all about Morrisons,’ Martin said. ‘If you’re visiting a Morrisons café you can get a completely free jacket potato and beans – normally costs around a fiver – until Sunday the 7th of May.
‘This is about a promotion it’s doing with Heinz and it’s hoping it’ll provide hot meals to those who may otherwise struggle to afford it; just give a little bit of respite.’
Martin encouraged shoppers, especially those in need, to take advantage of the no-strings-attached hack.
‘Do spread the word on if you know anyone who could do with a little bit of hot food at the moment,’ he said.
‘It is a total freebie, there’s no minimum spend required.

‘It’s limited to one free jacket potato and one beans per customer per day.’
He says to claim the deal just ‘ask for Henry’ – in honour of Heinz founder Henry Heinz – at the till point.
It comes as the consumer expert recently issued a warning for those trying to cut back their energy bills by using airfryers or microwaves instead of their oven.
Many cooking for themselves and their families have invested in airfryers during the cost-of-living crisis in the belief that they are more economical than an oven, but Martin suggested this isn’t always the case.
In some circumstances it can actually be cheaper just to turn the oven on, the consumer journalist said on his podcast.
It all comes down to an equation which shows which appliance uses more electricity for making different dishes.
While a single jacket potato can be cooked in the airfryer or microwave in just a few minutes, trying to cook a full roast for several people is likely to be more expensive than just using an oven.
