The world of TV is vastly different to how it appears on screen, as a winner of one of Oprah’s Favorite Things giveaways has revealed.
Candi Davis, 48, from Chicago, was in the audience for a one-off special of the popular TV segment in 2010 and was shocked when she found out she was among a handful of people who would be gifted a selection of goods, with the main prize being a Volkswagen Beetle.
In a series of recent TikToks, she has revealed what went on when the cameras weren’t rolling, from a surprising comment made by Oprah to the fact she didn’t get her vehicle until 11 months later.
In one clip she recounts how, while the details of the gifts were being sorted out, Oprah ‘kicked off her gold high heel shoes and sat down on the edge of the stage to talk to us.

While many viewers appreciated Candi’s recollection of events, some felt Oprah’s comment came across as a back-handed compliment. However, Candi defended Oprah
‘She said, “I know you don’t feel like you deserve any of this stuff, and you don’t – none of you deserve it. But you are worthy of it, and I want you to remember that.”‘

However, Candi defended Oprah in a follow-up video and said the media mogul was well-intentioned and said her piece after hearing audience members say they felt unworthy of the prizes.
‘She meant it in a really, really sweet way,’ Candi explained.
In another clip, the TikToker reveals how the process of getting the car was ‘interesting,’ as the show was filmed in 2010 but the vehicle she won was a 2012 model ‘so it didn’t come out till the following fall.’
She finally got her car in the October of 2011 and from four colors she had to choose from, she plumped for cherry red.

In a TikTok, Candi reveals that she still has the car and she will ‘will drive that thing until the wheels fall off.’
It currently has just over 130,000 miles on the clock. Along with a car, Candi won a hoard of other goods.

The episode starring Candi aired on November 11, 2010 and it took two and a half hours to film in total
On the day of filming, she went home with an iPad, diamond earrings, a Nordstrom gift card for a bra fitting, Le Creuset cookware, a Coach purse, and ‘a few other small things.’
She was also gifted a number of edible things, like ‘a chicken pot pie and croissants and teas.’
However, she revealed that all of the clothing and footwear items she won had to be ordered later on to ensure the sizing was correct.
She explained: ‘The things that were size specific like the Uggs, the jeans, the [cashmere] sweater, we were given little cards that had a code on them and we had to go to the website and enter in the code and pick our size and then they shipped everything to us.’
