In the episode, Kaitlin revealed that she had first met Aaron in elementary school.
The pair eventually started dating when she was 18 and quickly began abusing prescription drugs.
The couple paused temporarily when she became pregnant with son Camden but, when he was just six months old, they returned to their old ways and started using harder substances.
Their relationship was plagued with arguments as she admitted the duo were doing ‘whatever they could’ to get high, including stealing.
Keen to change her lifestyle, Kaitlin checked herself into rehab in 2016 – but, just a week before she was due out, Aaron overdosed and passed away.
In the aftermath of his death, Kaitlin found comfort in speaking to Aaron’s brother Rory – who admitted that he had not trusted her when the pair had first met.
Rory would check up on Kaitlin and his then two-year-old nephew on weekends which is how their relationship began to blossom.
Rory said: ‘First we were kind of both hesitant on letting our relationship be known to our families. We didn’t want them thinking that we didn’t care about Aaron.’

Speaking about her own reactions, Aaron and Rory’s mother Jess admitted that at first she thought it was ‘a little weird.’
She revealed: ‘My first thought was, “How would Aaron feel” and I knew he would not like it at all. He would not be happy.
‘But once I looked at it the way [Rory] was looking at it… you can’t help who you have feelings for.’
She concluded: ‘It’s not my determination who my kids are with.’
Kaitlin and Rory, who also has a son from a previous relationship, have now been together for seven years.
The couple have welcomed two daughters of their own and Camden has now started calling Rory ‘dad’ rather than ‘uncle.’
They said that if Aaron knew about their relationship now he would be ‘very comforted.’
