Controversial YouTube star Shane Dawson and his husband Ryland Addams have announced they are expecting two boys via a surrogate.
After announcing they were going to use surrogacy to have two children in 2022, the couple – who moved from Los Angeles to Colorado in 2021 – has now revealed they will be having two boys in a new video.
Shane, 34 – who was ‘canceled’ last summer after old videos of him making pedophilia jokes and dressed in blackface resurfaced – and Ryland, 32, shared the news in a YouTube clip yesterday.
In the viral video, which has already amassed over 493,000 views, the lovebirds – who tied the knot in January – showed off the new Burberry baby clothes they purchased and shared the baby names they had decided on.

The clip began with the two explaining that although they had initially hoped to have one boy and one girl, based on the advice of their doctor, they had decided to have two twin boys instead.
When babies are born through IVF, which is the process their surrogate is using, fertility doctors are able to identify XX or XY chromosomes in the embryo, making the gender selection nearly 100 per cent accurate, so parents can chose the gender of their child, according to the Pacific Fertility Center of Los Angeles.
Ryland said: ‘We went into this thinking we were going to do a girl of mine and a boy of Shane’s, and when [the doctor] was going through, he was like “Well the most optimal for pregnancy on both of your ends are boys.”‘
After confirming with their surrogate, whom they didn’t reveal the name of, that she was okay with carrying twins, the couple gave the go-ahead to their doctor.
Later in the clip, Shane and Ryland showcased the many baby clothes and accessories they had splurged on.
The items purchased included a Ralph Lauren Onesie ($75), Burberry Shoes ($190), a Burberry Bib ($80), Golden Goose Sneakers ($300), multiple custom-made blankets, and another Ralph Lauren Baby Onesie ($20).
The couple took viewers to their beauty room to reveal that they would be transforming it into a nursery.
‘So we decided that this beauty room would be transformed into the nursery to start because it’s just like centrally located, it can be really dark with that black-out blind, but it’s also bright if we want to have people over to visit the babies,’ Ryland explained.

They also purchased Golden Goose Sneakers ($300) for the baby, bringing their total to $665

They added that when the boys got older they wanted them to share a room so they could create a closer bond.
Later in the clip, the couple revealed they would be naming their boys Jet – short for Jetson – and Max.
After meeting a barista named Max, Ryland said: ‘I think we should name our son Max.’
And while the couple was hopeful they would have two boys, they noted that they understood there was a chance of not both of the embryos taking.
According to Yale Medicine, a surrogate mother is someone who carries and delivers a baby for a couple or individual.
Surrogate mothers are impregnated through the use of IVF. Doctors create an embryo by fertilizing an egg or eggs from the mother with sperm from the intended father.
Shane and Ryland’s surrogate was impregnated with one egg that had Shane’s sperm and one that had Ryland’s sperm.
If we only get one baby [while] implanting two, that’s what was to meant to be,’ Ryland said.

Shane saw the implantation take place through Facetime, and he branded it the ‘best moment of my life’ as he held back tears
Towards the end of the clip, the couple shared footage of their embryo transfer day, which also marked the very first time they met their surrogate.
‘It is a huge day for us because today is actually our embryo transfer day. Our surrogate is in town, we are going to get her, go to breakfast, and then go to the clinic with her,’ Ryland said before Shane added he was so ‘excited.’
Although they didn’t show their surrogate on camera, they did show footage of their two embryos while at the fertility clinic.
Because they only allowed two people in the room, including the surrogate, Ryland entered the room while Shane stayed behind.

The couple also said they had a ‘perfect’ connection to their surrogate.

Shane Dawson was once a beloved face of the video-sharing platform, but in June 2020, the internet turned against him when clips of him dressing in blackface resurfaced
Following the circulation of the clips, Shane shared an apology video on YouTube and disappeared from the web until the following year
‘We both immediately felt connected and were like, “Oh this was the perfect fit for us,”‘ Ryland said.
Shane added: ‘She reminds me so much of someone I would be friends with in high school, we just instantly clicked, the same sense of humor, so soft-spoken, and sweet, and funny. She has a 10-year-old herself so she was giving us all these tips and advice, so it was just the perfect, best-case scenario.’

Many of them noted they were so happy to see him have ‘grown’ and that they were ‘excited’ for the couple.
