Mum slammed over illegal act at shopping centre: ‘I had no idea’

A furious debate has reignited after a mum was slammed for seating her two young children in one shopping trolley.
The confused Sydney mum questioned whether the act was ‘illegal’ and claims she was criticised by a stranger at the supermarket for doing so.
She revealed the combined weight of her two kids was about 35 kilograms and shared an image on Facebook of the sitting in a Coles trolley with their legs dangling through the bars.
‘I was told off by a lady today and she told me it is illegal,’ she wrote, Yahoo previously reported.
‘Is she correct?’ the mum said on Facebook.
The conversation has since kicked off again on social media – and opinions remain divided.

Many parents were swift to stick up for the mum and shamed others for the judgement.
Why do people feel the need to judge one another? It’s tough enough raising children why do people feel the need to rip each other down?,’ one woman commented on Facebook.
‘I would have told her to mind her own business!’ another said.
A third added: ‘Is there also a weight limit on the groceries IN the trolley as well? I doubt it!’
However, others were concerned about the potential risks involved with many discussing the weight restrictions on shopping trolleys.
‘Illegal? Sure, they probably exceed the weight limit but who really cares,’ one person wrote.
‘Probably not illegal, but also not a wise idea because of the potential risk of the trolley falling if the weight becomes unbalanced as the kids move,’ wrote another.
‘I don’t know about illegal but if their combined weight is significantly more than the limit stated, your trolley might not be balanced and could tip when you go over a bump if they rock it,’ one person added.

A Coles spokeswoman previously encouraged shoppers exercise safety when using their trolleys.
‘Most Coles stores have a selection of specialty trolleys available for our customers’ convenience,’ she said.
‘These include baby capsule, twin and twin toddler trolleys as well as trolleys for those with limited mobility.
‘We encourage parents ensure their children fit safely in the seat and use the seatbelts where provided.’
