A woman has sparked furious outrage after revealing a couple changed their baby’s ‘extremely stinky’ diaper on the food tray of an airplane mid-flight.
The unnamed Reddit user reignited the heated conversation surrounding flying etiquette, just days after a pilot revealed his ultimate rules for traveling.
The 28-year-old woman revealed that she was yelled at by a couple after begging with them to not change a smelly diaper in the middle of their seat.
She questioned if she was in the wrong in a thread titled, ‘Am I the a**hole?’ for telling the parents to go to the bathroom to change their child’s diaper.

The 28-year-old woman revealed that she was yelled at by a couple after begging with them to not change a smelly diaper in the middle of their seat
The post read: ‘I was on a flight for several hours today, seated behind a couple with a baby. I’m a really nauseous flyer, so I took a Dramamine ahead of time and did my best to get some sleep during the flight.
‘This didn’t happen because of the baby’s crying, but oh well, I know flights are scary and stressful for infants and there was nothing anyone could do about that.
‘What got to me was the couple changing their baby’s extremely stinky #2 diaper right in the middle of their seats, using the mom’s food tray as a changing table. We were at the back of the plane right by the bathrooms, which I confirmed had baby changing tables when I had to go back there to throw up after the smell hit me.’
She explained that the parents changed their baby’s diaper twice during the duration of the flight.
The first time it happened, the anonymous traveler revealed she kept her mouth shut.
But, by the second time, she had enough.
She revealed: ‘I didn’t say anything the first time, but the second time I heard them go into the diaper bag a couple hours later I asked if they could please go use the plane bathroom instead of exposing everyone on the plane to the smell.’
And although she thought the parents would be kind and listen to her request, she received a very different response than what she was expecting.
Other users on the social media platform were quick to come to the woman’s defense and slammed the parents for their ‘disgusting’ behavior
The Reddit user revealed that the mom began yelling at her about the stresses that came with being a parent.
‘The mom went off on me and said I had no idea how stressful it is to travel with an infant, which is true—I don’t have kids,’ she explained.
However, luckily the flight crew took the woman’s side over the mom’s.
‘The flight attendant at the back of the plane agreed with me and asked them to only use the bathrooms to change their baby, plus a few minutes later the pilot made an announcement that all diaper changing needed to be done in the bathrooms, after which both parents looked extremely annoyed,’ she explained.
She ended her post by questioning if she was the ‘a**hole’ for asking the parents ‘to stop changing their baby in the middle of the plane and inadvertently bringing it to the attention of the flight crew?’
Other users on the social media platform were quick to come to the woman’s defense and slammed the parents for their ‘disgusting’ behavior.
One person wrote: ‘Not the a**hole. There are changing tables in the bathrooms. That’s what they are for.
‘Also, thank God the maintenance crews disinfect between flights. The thought of eating/drinking off a tray table used as a changing table makes me want to hurl.’
Another user commented: ‘Basic rules of baby changing: Don’t do it where people eat or where people are in close proximity. If you have a choice always use the changing tables. ‘
‘What they were doing was disgusting,’ said someone else.
A mom even chimed in and said: ‘As a mom that has traveled with infants, that is disgusting.’
One pilot said: ‘Pilot here. This is what the bathrooms are for. You aren’t alone in an aircraft and having an infant doesn’t excuse you from anti-social behavior.
‘If you can’t respect your fellow passengers, you probably shouldn’t be flying. I’m willing to bet if they were on the receiving end, they would be the first to complain.
‘I have many urine and fecal stories from my flights and I have zero tolerance for inexcusable behavior. Accidents are fine.
‘We’re all human and I have empathy for people with medical issues. Laziness and entitlement are where I draw the line. Flying is a privilege, not a right and I have no problem revoking that privilege for people who don’t play well with others.’
Another user said: ‘That is so disgusting and unhygienic. Yes, the air is filtered but things are going to still be contaminated.’
Someone else wrote: ‘Disgusting people.’
‘That’s disgusting. Entitled parents make things worse for everyone around them,’ wrote one person.
The ordeal is the latest in a string of airplane etiquette debates.
Many have sparked uproar after sharing the stance on airplane seat switching.
Recently, Audrey Peters, 25, took to TikTok to share her dismay at being asked to move to a middle seat in order for a family to sit together.
The social media star, who is from Miami but currently lives in New York City, laughed the request off and said that they should have booked their flight earlier.
Her reaction sent the web spinning as seat switching continues to divide the internet.
In the past, DailyMail.com’s Jaci Stephen even offered up her view, and confessed that she ‘absolutely refuses’ to swap seats, no matter how angry the passenger requesting to switch may get.
