Dog gets drunk and hungover after eating chocolate liquor

A mischievous dog was left battling a miserable hangover after she ate 12 bottles of chocolate liquor that got her drunk — and then incredibly sick.

As part of Ellie Mae Dwyer’s punishment, the pooch’s owner had her pose for a photo next to the remaining bottles of chocolate liquor that she had broken into and a sign detailing her antics.

‘Today I ate 12 chocolate liquor bottles. Got so drunk I couldn’t stand up. And then projectile vomited across the living room. And now I am hungover!’ reads the sign.

The popular Instagram account hilarious.ted shared the image of Ellie Mae on Tuesday with the caption: ‘Poor doggo.’

The adorable boxer looks absolutely miserable in the photo, and many commenters said they could relate to what she was going through.

‘This makes me so sad. I want to let him know that we understand,’ a woman named Leslie wrote.

‘Don’t feel bad…people do the same thing every day…nobody’s judging you…’ Michael Capelo assured the dog.

One Instagram user known as ‘atleastyoutr1edtbh’ noted that poor Ellie shouldn’t be shamed for her bad decision.

‘Don’t embarrass him. He just made a mistake. He’s doing his best,’ the person wrote.

And a woman named Amy added: ‘Awww! you can tell he’s hurting!’

In less than 24 hours, the image of Ellie Mae has been liked more than 90,000 times with many people calling the dog their ‘spirit animal.’

‘It’s a dog version of me,’ Lochlan Munro joked, while someone else known as ‘y0ungyellow’ commented: ‘Why this is me after drinking girrrrrl.’

Although many were amused by the post, others were disgusted that people would be laughing about a sick dog who could have died.

Chocolate and cocoa products can be fatal to dogs if consumed in large amounts. Chocolate contains a stimulant called theobromine (similar to caffeine) that is poisonous to them.

Theobromine mainly affects the dog’s heart, central nervous system, and kidneys, and dogs who consume large amounts of chocolate can experience muscle tremors, seizures, an irregular heartbeat, internal bleeding or a even a heart attack.

Unsurprisingly, alcohol can also be toxic to dogs in large amounts, and like humans, they can get drunk from it.

Some commenters who were less than pleased with the post criticized the dog’s owner for taking a funny photo of the pup instead of taking he to the vet.

However, its unclear if the pet owner had taken Ellie to the vet and gotten a clear bill of health before taking the snapshot.

‘Chocolate is super bad for dogs. Take him to the vet instead of writing a stupid note,’ someone named Annie wrote.

‘Lucky he didn’t die. Dogs normally can’t get [alcohol] outta their systems,’ an Instagram user known as ‘schwifty_tovarisch_glasnost’ pointed out.

And some people blamed the dog’s owner for leaving the chocolate liquor out in the first place.

‘Bad human for leaving them out,’ Lisa Hennessy wrote.
