Shih Tzu cross Bichon: Woman buys puppy that looks like llama

Dog lover buys her dream ‘fluffy’ puppy named Roosevelt but ends up with something else entirely: ‘He looks like an electrocuted llama’

  • Woman was excited to take new ‘teddy bear’ puppy home
  • But was left with scruffy mutt that ‘looks like a llama’

A woman who asked for a fluffy ‘teddy bear puppy’ ended up with a completely different version of her ideal dog.

Melissa was excited to take her new pet home but was left with a scruffy brown mutt with fur that ‘looks like it’s been electrocuted’.

After sharing two comparative images of ‘what she wanted vs what she got’, the internet was left in stitches while others called the derpy pooch ‘adorable’.

‘Little Roosevelt is four-months-old and looks more like a llama than a teddy bear but I love him just the same,’ Melissa wrote alongside images on a popular Facebook group.

Expectation: Melissa wanted a fluffy new puppy that looked like a teddy bear, so she bought a Shih Tzu cross Bichon

Reality: Instead she was left with a scruffy mutt

In the comments Melissa confirmed her beloved dog is meant to be a Shih Tzu cross Bichon, also known as a shichon.

According to Daily Paws, this hybrid is gentle, sweet and playful but require a decent amount of regularly grooming to keep their fur tidy.

Melissa said she’s eager to find out if this is her dog’s true breed.

‘I think at this point anything is possible. I’m going to do a DNA test on him soon,’ she wrote.

In one photo her little four-legged friend is sitting looking at the camera wearing blue and grey pyjamas.

The post was liked more than 1,100 times and more than 240 comments were left.

‘His hair looks like Kramer from Seinfeld,’ one joked, another added: ‘He’s such a cute mess!’

A third said: ‘Poor buddy looks like me when the coffee hasn’t kicked in fighting with four kids.’

Others weren’t as nice and called Melissa ‘gullible’ for buying a ‘rebranded mutt’.

‘You got dogfished and it’s absolutely hilarious,’ one said, another wrote: ‘You got exactly what you asked for. A genetic disaster.’

Another said: ‘Looks like he’s been electrocuted.’

It comes as a veterinary nurse revealed the perfect dog breed for your lifestyle, whether you are single, a young couple or a renter or homeowner.

Senior nurse and practice manager Tess Nolan spends her days caring for dogs and cats on the Gold Coast, conducting everything from pet CPR to X-rays and blood tests.

According to Tess, as soon as you add a newborn or toddler into the mix, the vet said you’re better off going for either a labradoodle, spoodle or cavoodle.

‘All of these hypoallergenic breeds will require some brushing and grooming, but no shedding which is a huge plus!’ Tess said, adding: ‘Plus, they are smart, gentle, patient and absolutely love kids.’

If you’re retired and looking for a small bundle of love to add to your life, Tess recommends a ‘small little pocket-sized cutie’ such as a Pomeranian or a Chihuahua.

Golden retrievers are a popular choice with dog owners the world over, and Tess said they are ideally suited to a young couple’s lifestyle.

‘Golden retrievers make such amazing pets. They are loving, loyal and always by your side, with just enough need for activity but happy to laze around the house for downtime,’ she said.

While adding a new pet to the family when you already have one can be a struggle, Tess said a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will make the perfect addition.

The perfect dog breed to suit your lifestyle:

Kelpie – if you like running, hiking or spending time outdoors

Boston Terrier or a Cocker Spaniel – if you’re single and life alone

Golden Retriever – ideally suited to a young couple’s lifestyle

Labradoodle, Spoodle or Cavoodle – as soon as you add a newborn or toddler into the mix

Greyhound – if you spend a lot of time working

Pomeranian or a Chihuahua – if you’re retired and looking for a small bundle of love to add to your life

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – for a family, couple or single person

Moodle – or cross between a Maltese and a poodle (toy or miniature) – for someone who’s after a low maintenance dog
