Chimera cat goes viral thanks to her perfectly-split face

Normally being two-faced isn’t such a positive attribute.

But for Quimera the cat the term means beauty, as her little furry face is perfectly divided into two different ones – one with tabby fur and a hazel eye and the other black with a blue eye.

Quimera is a chimera cat, meaning that she is technically two cats rolled into one.

Chimera cats are the result of the merging of two fertilized eggs, or two early embryos in its mother’s womb.

Each of the separate two-parent cells had already started developing before the merge, meaning that their established physical features may already come through.

Although it is an incredibly rare occurrence, chimeras can occur across many species – including humans – but most don’t realize they even have the condition.

The signs can be subtle, such as patches of different colored hair or having a toe-thumb on one hand and a hitchhiker thumb on the other.

One Washington man famously failed a paternity test after doctors discovered his sperm was from the twin who he had absorbed in the womb.

The name chimera comes from the monster of Greek mythology made of lions, goats and snakes.

As for others like Quimera, the most famous chimera cat is likely Venus, who has more than 1.4 million followers on Instagram and is practically the inverse in color from Quimera.

Instead of amber fur and a greenish eye on one side and a blue eye in black fur on the other, Venus’ black fur side has a green eye and her tabby side has blue.
