The heartbroken parents of a toddler who died despite seeing five doctors in four days are urging others to trust their instincts and stand up to their physicians.
Tim and Angela Black took their two-year-old son Lachlan to hospital when he developed a fever and rash.
After four days that included three visits to hospital and two GP consultations, Lachlan died from streptococcal in the intensive care unit of the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne in 2014.

His parents believe that had antibiotics been prescribed to Lachlan sooner, he would have survived, Seven News reports.
‘He died a third-world death in a first-world country,’ Ms Black told the network.
‘He suffered in hospital and we had to see that, he shouldn’t have had to go through that and we have to live with that for the rest of our lives.’
Now, the couple hope they can ‘change the system’ and warn other parents in the same situation to trust their instincts.

They are also taking legal action against the hospital, arguing Lachlan’s death was preventable
‘Act soon and act first, worry about people’s opinions later, the other way the price is too high,’ Mr Black added.

The Blacks must also wait for the coroner to deliver findings.
