Little-known fintech company Jaja Finance has apologised to credit card customers who were mistakenly hit with £12 late payment fees over the Christmas period.
The London-based company, which last year took over the credit card business of Bank of Ireland in a £530million deal, says that a ‘small minority’ of customers were affected by the computer glitch.
This meant – somewhat bizarrely – that some customers were hit with a penalty charge before their regular direct debit payment was taken in December.
Glitch: Last year, Jaja took over the credit card business of Bank of Ireland in a £530million deal
On Friday, Jaja, which was set up five years ago by Norwegian entrepreneurs, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘We are very sorry that some customers were incorrectly charged.
‘All affected customers have been identified, and charges applied incorrectly have been refunded. There is no impact to customers’ credit scores.’
In addition, credit card holders have been sent emails telling them that minimum payments were due which had already been paid, and that new direct debits had been set up when they hadn’t been.
Some customers have also had ‘teething issues’ downloading the Jaja app that allows them to manage their cards online.
Under the Bank of Ireland deal, Jaja took control of Post Office and AA-branded cards.
