The UK is entering a ‘golden age’ of film and television with production at a record high, says the UK boss of broadcaster Sky.
The combined spend on production in 2022 hit £6.2billion, the highest reported and £1.83billion more than pre-Covid levels, according to British Film Institute figures.
Stephen van Rooyen, chief executive of Sky UK and Ireland, told the Mail: ‘This is the golden age of British TV and film – the jewel in the crown of our economy.’

Sky is set to open a studio at Elstree this year.
Last month ministers promised extra support in a strategy to add 1m more jobs in creative industries within a decade.
Paolo Pescatore, analyst at PP Foresight, said that van Rooyen’s comments show ‘a strong endorsement for UK talent as a major hub for storytellers, producers and creators alike’.
