Princess Eugenie set to launch a new series of her Ocean Advocate podcast

Princess Eugenie held a thought-provoking conversation with an environmental activist in the first new episode of her Ocean Advocate mini-series.      

The king’s niece, 33, launched the second season of the series on Friday – days after the birth of her second son, named Ernest George Ronnie, on Monday. 

But it was straight back to work for Princess Eugenie, who confirmed last night that the second series of Ocean Advocate will be launched just in time for World Ocean Day on Friday.

Her first conversation was with Hugo Tagholm, who is the executive director and Vice President of Oceana in the UK. He told Eugenie that Oceana has ‘three’ goals.

‘We’re working on sustainable fisheries, we think we should always follow the science on only fishing at sustainable levels,’ he said.

The royal then asked Hugo how he inspires so many young people to get involved.

Hugo said: ‘We all rely on a thriving, healthy sea for the oxygen we breathe.

‘So we try and inspire with how people can be involved in various ways.’

These include beach cleans, or writing to their local MP on the matter, he said.

Last night, Eugenie had given a sneak peek of a number of her upcoming guests on the series, including Zandile Ndhlovu, the founder of The Black Mermaid Foundation.

She will also be in conversation with Brigitta Gunawan, who is behind the 30 x 30 Indonesia project. This aims to help protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.

Announcing the second series, Princess Eugenie said: ‘In celebration of World Ocean Day I’m launching my Ocean Advocate series two tomorrow! 

‘Stay tuned for episode one.’

The first season of the mini-series was launched on 9 June 2022, and she welcomed guests including her ‘dear friend’ and singer Ellie Goulding throughout the summer.

The mother-of-two said she wanted to hear from experts about why we should ‘protect the ocean and how vital it is that we do so.’

She also promised the Ocean Advocate series would bring voices from ‘some incredible people who’ve sought to protect the ocean and what lives in it for many, many years.’  

Eugenie has a track record of being environmentally aware, and has now been an ambassador for the Blue Marine Foundation for the past two years. 

In April, she revealed how becoming a mother to her eldest son August Brooksbank, two, had made her want to do more to protect the environment.

She said: ‘Priorities change when you have children; you want to do everything you can for them – and for your grandchildren.

‘August is only two but I hope that what I’m doing will seep through to him and that one day he takes it on, too.’

Princess Eugenie is an avid campaigner on environmental issues and even had a plastic-free wedding to her husband Jack Brooksbank in 2018.

The royal kept the birth of Ernest under wraps for around a week before announcing his arrival to the public on Monday.  

His name pays tribute to his late grandfather, Jack’s dad George, who died aged 72 in 2021, and Fergie’s father Major Ronald Ferguson.

Eugenie also said his name was a tribute to his great great great grandfather George V, whose middle name was also Ernest.
