Schoolgirls revolt over ‘sexist’ dress code

Teenage girls have hit out at their school over a ‘sexist’ dress code after claims a third of female pupils were sent home for ‘inappropriate clothing’.

Students at Brentwood County High School in Essex, previously attended by Pixie Lott, have been posting pictures of their outfits on Twitter to register their fury at the dress code.

One sixth form pupil said a female teacher ‘lined up girls’ before a male teacher made the decision on whether to send them home over what they were wearing.

Others described it as ‘complete objectification’ and said they feared being expelled if they took the matter further.

One pupil wrote on Twitter: ‘Brentwood County High has enforced a seemingly sexist dress code & girls are sexualised when assessed as to whether their outfit is ‘appropriate’.

‘Girls are sent home for wearing boots, but boys are not. Skirts and dresses can’t be too short but trousers can’t look like leggings.’

Another girl, 17, posted a picture of herself in a jumper and mid-thigh length skirt and said she was ‘sent home by a 50-year-old man for wearing this’.

She added: ‘This man told me that I looked inappropriate. He said that they needed to raise standards.

‘The average person at my school didn’t even get GCSE maths and English. I got 8 A*’s.’

The girl added: ‘I am a feminist to RAISE SOCIETAL STANDARDS and yet here I am at home being denied an education.’

Her post has been shared hundreds of times with many people offering their support, labelling the incident ‘deeply disturbing’, ‘discrimination’ and ‘shameful’.

MailOnline has contacted Brentwood County High School for comment.

The state-funded academy has around 1,400 pupils and was rated ‘requires improvement’ in its most recent Ofsted inspection, while notable former pupils include pop star Pixie Lott and Premier League footballer Jonjo Shelvey.
