AC Milan have a ‘very good chance’ of signing Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea target Marcus Thuram, with the Italian giants leading the race to land the Borussia Monchengladbach striker on a free transfer

AC Milan are leading the race to sign free agent Marcus Thuram after the forward ended his four-year stay with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 25-year-old has attracted significant interest following a productive season that saw him net 13 times in 30 Bundesliga outings.

Milan are currently in the driving seat to secure his services next term, according to Sky Sports Germany, though RB Leipzig have also registered their interest in the hope the attacker will opt to stay in Germany. Thuram has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all keen on securing his services.

Milan have reportedly offered Thuram, a 10-cap French international, a signing-on fee in excess of £8.6m and a salary in the region of £82,000 per week. There have been no details on the length of the prospective deal.

Thuram could be set to join a Rossoneri side desperate to retool their attack after the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Divock Origi and Charles De Ketelaere’s sub-par seasons.

After finishing fourth – two points behind their city rivals Inter Milan – Stefano Pioli’s side secured another season of Champions League football, but their summer dealings have got off to a poor start with the expected departure of Newcastle-bound Sandro Tonali.

The Italian giants would likely deploy Thuram in the central striking position he exclusively played in last term, but he has shown an ability to play across the front three in previous years.

That versatility – and lack of a transfer fee – also makes him an exciting option for Leipzig, whose star man Christopher Nkunku completed a £53m switch to Chelsea on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old’s goal return was similar to his countryman Thuram, though his tally of 16 goals came in five fewer games.

Leipzig are believed to be outsiders to nab Thuram, having just joined the race for the rangy striker.
