England captain Heather Knight has proudly shown off a good-luck card that her team received from ECB staff ahead of the women’s Ashes.
After a thrilling first Test between England and Australia’s men to kickstart the Ashes summer, it is now the turn of the women to showcase their talent, with their one-off Test starting today.
Ben Stokes’s team were given a good-luck card last week, and Knight and her team have been presented with one of their own as they look to regain the Urn.
Holding up the card for the cameras, Knight was pictured beaming after reading the personal messages sent by the ECB staff.
One message read: ‘Thanks for inspiring the next generation of boys and girls to play cricket. As a dad of a 5 year old girl taking her first steps into cricket at All Stars, you are all amazing role models and heroes!’

Knight’s team will be hoping for a different outcome to their male counterparts after Australia pulled off a thrilling win on the final day of the first men’s Test on Tuesday
Women’s Test matches have consistently been played across four days, but this game will have five days, in a landmark move for the women’s game.
Another message encouraged Knight and her side to seize their opportunity and prove how bright the future is for female sport.
‘Go and smash it, and that glass ceiling! #WeGotGame’, the message stated.
Australia’s women have dominated the Ashes in recent years, with England not beating them since winning Down Under in 2013-14.
Hopes are high for a first triumph in almost a decade, though, and the team have been urged to go out and take it to the Aussies this summer.
‘Go and smash the Aussies! We are with you all the way!’ another messaged read.
The women’s Ashes will be contested across all three formats of the game, with the Test getting things underway.
