UConn coach Dan Hurley rewarded for March Madness glory with a new six-year deal worth a guaranteed $33m

UConn coach Dan Hurley has been rewarded with a blockbuster six-year, $33million contract after guiding the team to March Madness glory earlier this year.

That’s according to ESPN, who have reported that there are other incentives in the deal that can raise the overall value.

Hurley led the school to their fifth national championship with a dominant 76-59 victory over San Diego State in April. He has revived the team’s fortunes in his five years there so far.

Three UConn players are anticipated to be picked in Thursday’s NBA Draft in Brooklyn in Jordan Hawkins, Andre Jackson Jr and Adama Sanogo. Sanogo was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player after averaging 19.7 points and 9.8 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament.

But Hurley has been backed to keep the Huskies as a top-10 again in the 2023-24 season.

In the aftermath of the March Madness win, the Huskies were invited to the White House where their victory was commemorated by President Biden.

‘This team is proof that there’s no quit in UConn, just like there’s no quit in America,’ Biden

It was also amusingly revealed after the competition was over that Hurley had been wearing the same pair of lucky underwear during each game of the NCAA tournament.
