Ollie Robinson has made up with Usman Khawaja after they clashed TWICE during the first Ashes Test but the Australian opener did tell him to ‘be careful what you say’ after bowler’s foul-mouthed send-off
Ollie Robinson insists he has made up with Usman Khawaja after their verbal clash at Edgbaston but admits the Australian told him ‘be careful what you say.’
Robinson gave Khawaja a colourful send-off after bowling him for 141 during the first innings of the first Ashes Test and then the pair clashed again during a drinks break on the last day.
Match referee Andy Pycroft did not believe either incident was serious enough for disciplinary action but Robinson revealed he made sure he talked with the player of the match after Australia’s two-wicket win.
‘All bowlers do this when they’re fired up and trying to get a wicket for their team,’ Robinson told Wisden.com.
‘I spoke to Ussie afterwards and it was all good. He was like “mate, just be careful what you say”.

The pair then exchanged words again during a drinks break on the final day at Edgbaston
Robinson revealed the pair patched things up after the match, which Australia won
‘It was nothing against him and we had a good chat. He’s a nice guy and I’ve always got on well with him having played against him a few times.
‘I just got caught up in the moment. I was desperate for a wicket. I hadn’t bowled that well in the first innings and obviously he was a big wicket. It was just one of those things. I got caught up in the moment and let myself go.’
Robinson is never afraid to have a word with an opponent and took on the traditional role of his hero Glenn McGrath when he said before the Ashes he wanted to give Australia ‘a good hiding’.
He was it again on Thursday when he said Australia were too defensive at Edgbaston and would have to change their approach even after taking a 1-0 lead.
‘Of course it sounds weird because they won but I think, if they’re honest, Australia will look at themselves and realise they need to change their approach to keep up with how we’re going to play,’ said Robinson.
‘If there’s any movement in the pitch at Lord’s the way we’re playing compared to them is going to benefit us hugely.
‘We were surprised how defensive Australia were and how unwilling they were to go toe-to-toe with us. Baz (Brendon McCullum) said it after the game.
‘It feels like we won lads.’ We’ve entertained the world and we’ve put the Aussies on the back foot. For him to say that after a loss is quite significant for us.’
