Arctic Monkeys’ frontman Alex Turner appears to have overcome his bout of laryngitis and will perform at Glastonbury 2023 as Friday night’s headliner.

His girlfriend Louise Verneuil has made the trip to Worthy Farm to join the singer at the UK’s biggest festival.

The pair have been together for a number of years now, living in multiple countries together in that time.

Who is Louise Verneuil?

Louise Verneuil, real name Pauline Louise Benattar, was born in Ariege, a rural region of south-west France in 1988, and has one sister.

Her father enjoyed English language musicians like David Bowie and The Beatles, and his love of them influenced Verneuil.

He also taught her to play guitar.

Her mother, who died in 2018, also inspired her, enjoying to listen to Gilbert Becaud and Serge Gainsbourg. 

Verneuil studied journalism at university in Nice before going on to work for an art gallery as a publicist.

Since meeting her current boyfriend, she embarked on a musical career and is now a musician in her own right.

How long have Alex Turner and Louise Verneuil been together?

Verneuil was first spotted with Arctic Monkeys’ lead singer Alex Turner in 2018.

She is the most recent of a number of high profile relationships for the Sheffield frontman.

In the last decade the 37-year-old has had long-term relationships with models Alexa Chung and Taylor Bagley, and actress Arielle Vandenberg.

After Turner had lived in Los Angeles for six years, the couple crossed the Atlantic in 2020 so they could both live closer to their families, splitting their time between London and Paris.

What is Louise Verneuil’s occupation?

She is a singer-songwriter, primarily releasing music in her mother tongue of French.

Louise Verneuil is a stage name devised by Turner’s girlfriend when she was 22.

‘Louise’ is her middle name, but also the name of her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and Verneuil is taken from the street that Gainsbourg grew up on – Rue de Verneuil.

Aged 23, Verneuil appeared on French talent show The Voice in her first ever performance in front of a crowd, and made the final.

It took another eight years to release her first music – a self-titled EP – before releasing her first and only album to this date in 2020 called Lumiere Noire – French for black light.

She has since left the record company who she was with for that project, Mercury Records, but has teased a second album nevertheless.
