It’s the weekend, the sun is shining and you’re at a picnic in the park with friends.
But amongst the olives, houmous, artisan crisps and plastic cups strewn across the gingham, not a single person has thought to bring a bottle opener.
The corks in those bottles of dry rosé are in danger of staying cruelly wedged in place.
Step up, this is your time to be a hero.
The game-changer of a trick was shared online by @ty.ree.suh, from the US, who had first seen it on TikTok
The first step is to stab the knife far down into the cork until it’s a good way in. Then, hook the fork around the flat of the knife, so you have a lever of sorts
TikTok users have been showing a variety of their ingenious hacks on how to open bottles of wine when a corkscrew isn’t available.
But one social media user has gone viral for showing her ‘genius’ trick that’s left users on the site ‘mind-blown’.
It was demonstrated by @ty.ree.suh in a viral TikTok, that has since been viewed over a million times, and liked nearly 250,000 times.
And it’s no wonder wine lovers love the easy-to-use tip, as it includes a tool widely available.
For this hack, she revealed in her video, you only need two items – a knife and a fork.
She begun the video by captioning it: ‘How to open a wine bottle without a bottle opener?’
The voiceover on the clip the says: ‘I didn’t have a wine opener, but I learned on TikTok that if you stab the cork with a knife and use a fork to turn it around, it will open the wine bottle.’
She proceeds to do exactly this, twisting the knife around in an upward motion.
The hack works in seconds and only requires two simple tools you’ll find in every house. And users on TikTok were amazed by the results of the hack too

And this should be sufficient to pull the cork out of the bottle. Et voila!

‘This is the best thing ever,’ the voiceover says, as the TikToker pops open out the cork with ease.
Amazed by how easy it was, the young woman joked that she won’t use any other internet sources for information and tricks, writing in the caption: ”I son’t [sic] even use Google anymore, I love it here.’
And hundreds of TikTokers flocked to comments, writing that they were left equally impressed by the hack.
One person said: ‘Omgggg! Saving for later.’
A second said: ‘YOU ARE SO SMART! Thank you’ and a third wrote: ‘WAIT THAT IS GENIUSSSSS.’
Another commented: ‘WAIT THAT IS GENIUSSSSS.’
While one more put: ‘Always good to know.’
And a fifth person said: ‘You changed my life.’
Someone asked: ‘Also you can use a lighter & heat the top & the cork will come out…or am I wrong?!’
The video’s creator replied: ‘Yes but this trick takes a couple minutes. Mine was a few seconds.’
While another TikTok user gave another equally cool suggestion, writing: ‘I used a torch to heat the bottle and the cork popped out it was fun.’
Meanwhile, someone else wasn’t entirely convinced, writing: ‘Only do this with a rubber cork!!!!
‘The wooden ones will break on you 100%.’
And if you have a really old bottle of wine – and we’re not talking Echo Falls here – this hack may not work as the cork has often deteriorated too much for a corkscrew to work.
