Former professional boxer Garth Wood has been arrested after allegedly kicking and punching his partner’s ex ‘up to 15 times’ at a kids’ soccer game.
Wood, who famously knocked out Anthony Mundine in five rounds in 2010, was charged with affray and domestic violence related assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
According to News Corp, the 45-year-old appeared by video link at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday after being refused bail.
The court heard Wood, who 25 NRL games with Balmain and South Sydney, is alleged to have attacked a man identified as Jon Fenton, who was his partner’s ex-partner.
On Sunday, Wood is alleged to have knocked Fenton to the ground in an ‘unprovoked and ‘savage’ attack at King George Park in Rozelle in Sydney’s Inner West.

Police prosecutor Mr Walsh told the court the alleged attack occurred during an interval between junior matches with ‘families present to watch their children play soccer’.
He added: ‘After the initial punch [Wood allegedly] continued to punch and kick [Mr Fenton] up to 15 times to the rib area.’
Fenton allegedly tried to protect himself, before some members of the public offered first aid.
The complainant was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance.
The court heard a provisional AVO to protect Fenton was in place.
Wood was sentenced for a domestic violence offer three years ago and Walsh told the court his ‘record [did[ him no favours’, while noting that as a former boxer he was ‘no stranger to inflicting violence upon others’.
Wood’s lawyer Grant Slowgrove argued that while the alleged assault was ‘a serious matter’, he noted his client’s record was ‘limited’.
He told the court Wood ‘had told police a very different version to the facts’ and insisted his previous career as a boxer ‘doesn’t make him a greater risk of violence’.

Wood will return to court on July 3 for plea or mention.
The 45-year-old left the NRL in 2005 after his second spell with the Rabbitohs came to an end, before turning to boxing.
Five years later he became the first winner of the boxing reality show The Contender Australia, earning himself a fight with fellow former NRL star-turned-boxer Mundine.
In December 2010, Wood surprisingly dropped Mundine, who by then had already won the WBA and IBO middleweight belts, in five rounds before losing the rematch by unanimous decision in April of the following year.
