A teenage boy has died after being found injured on a road in Melbourne’s northwest.

Emergency crews rushed to Bailey Street, in the northwest Melbourne suburb of St Albans at around 11pm on Monday following reports of an injured boy on the road.

Victoria Police were told a number of people were reported to have been seen in the same location where the teenager was found, with witnesses claiming they were armed with a knife.

The teenager died on the way to hospital.

A crime scene has been set up and homicide squad detectives are investigating.

Forensic team detectives and SES officers were seen focusing on the nature strip on the corner of Bailey Street and Furlong Road.

Furlong Road was reopened for traffic, however motorists are being urged to avoid the area as Bailey Street – where the boy was found – remains closed.

Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.

It comes after a teenage boy was stabbed to death during a fight in the nearby suburb of Sunshine.

The teenager was standing in front of a busy bus station at Station Place in Sunshine at about 3.45pm on May 18 when he was attacked with a knife.

Paramedics desperately tried to save the boy who had suffered a knife wound to his neck but he died shortly after.
