NFL legend Troy Aikman slams the likes of Bud Light and other foreign beer brands for slapping US flags on cans to ‘cash in’ on July 4 holiday

Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman has called out beer brands who’ll slap the American flag on its cans to promote the Fourth of July weekend while they are based outside of the country.

Aikman, the owner of of Eight Elite Light Lager, shared a promotional message for his brand on social media on Monday, taking a swipe at some of the world’s largest beer brands in the process.

Eight Elite is based in Austin, Texas. An undisclosed percentage of its revenue is donated to several charities, including Back on My Feet, Project Lorenzo and Military Warriors Support Foundation.

‘This weekend we celebrate the birth of our great nation,’ said Aikman in footage shared through his Twitter profile. ‘I am so proud to be an American. I look forward to celebrating with good food, great friends and, of course, ice cold beer.’

‘At Eight, we believe in truth and authenticity. Our company is proudly based right here in Texas and all of our beer is brewed right here in the good ‘ol USA. So I’ve gotta call it like it is. There are a lot of beer brands out there that are trying to cash in on this holiday by slapping an American flag on their package. Regardless of whether or not they are truly American.

Beer brands such as Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Busch are owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, the largest brewing company in the US although with headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.

In May, Aikman, who’s now a color commentator of NFL on Fox, took a shot at Bud Light following the brand’s disastrous Dylan Mulvaney marketing campaign, as he promoted his Eight Elite Lager as a ‘no hidden agenda’ beer.

‘Some brands are taking shortcuts to gain consumers. We’re committed to producing a first-class product. No hidden agenda. No distractions. Come join Team EIGHT.’

Anheuser-Busch saw its market value plunge $27billion since hiring Mulvaney as an ambassador for its Bud Light brand.

In the latest scramble to return to the good graces of customers, Bud Light revealed a new promotion called the US Budweiser Family Memorial Day Rebate online, which the brand will reuse for the Fourth of July holiday.
