Chelsea re-open talks with Brighton for Moises Caicedo and target £35m-rated Gabri Veiga as they look to bolster their midfield with Mason Mount joining exodus
Chelsea are revisiting talks with Brighton for Moises Caicedo and will step up interest in Celta Vigo’s £35m midfielder Gabri Veiga following the sale of Mason Mount.
Veiga, 20, also has interest from Manchester City among others after scoring 11 times in LaLiga last season.
Chelsea had a £60m offer for Caicedo rejected earlier this month but are in a position to meet Brighton’s £80m demands after selling a host of stars.
Manchester United have agreed a £60m fee for Mount, Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy were sold to Saudi Arabia for a combined £36m, Kai Havertz has joined Arsenal for £65m and Ruben Loftus-Cheek has passed his medical at AC Milan ahead of a £18.5m move.
With Mateo Kovacic having joined Man City for £25m and N’Golo Kante signing for Al Ittihad for free, Chelsea are light on numbers in midfield and will now focus on strengthening it.

Mateo Kovacic has already left the club, leaving them thin in the ranks in the middle of the park
United had also shown an interest in Caicedo but that is expected to cool now they have agreed a fee for Mount.
Caicedo featured 37 times for the Seagulls last term as Roberto Di Zerbi guided them to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League, which also saw them qualify for the Europa League.
Di Zerbi’s side have already lost Alexis Mac Allister this summer, after the Argentinian World Cup winner joined Liverpool, and will therefore likely need at least two midfield recruits in the transfer window, should Caicedo depart.
