Liverpool are thought to be pushing ahead with a deal to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig after Newcastle United dropped out of the running for his signature, according to reports.
Szoboszlai, 22, was one of the standout players in the Bundesliga last season, as RB Leipzig finished third in the table behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, and won the German Cup.
The young midfielder has also risen to captain his national side, Hungary, and has attracted the interest of several Premier League sides.
However, according to The Athletic, Newcastle dropped out of the race to sign Szoboszlai and Liverpool are now confident they can agree something with the player.
Liverpool and Leipzig are already in talks, with Fabio Carvalho set to join the German side on a season-long loan imminently.

It gives the Reds an advantage with hopes to tempt Szoboszlai in the other direction – although the two moves are unrelated at this stage.
Liverpool’s intentions to bolster their midfield are well known, and they have already recruited Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m.
They’ve also been linked with France Under-21 duo Khepren Thuram and Manu Kone, who are both currently away for the Euro Championships.
Szoboszlai has a £60.1m (€70million) release clause in his contract, and Mail Sport previously said that the clause closes on June 30.
Since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, Szoboszlai has been a critical player for RB Leipzig. Last season, he scored 10 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions, including aiding them to the German Cup.
Szoboszlai scored Leipzig’s second goal in a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt to win the trophy at the start of June.
