Noughties one-hit wonder Sandi Thom looks unrecognisable following public breakdown

Noughties one-hit wonder Sandi Thom looks unrecognisable following her online breakdown in 2015 – as she makes rare TV appearance to promote remake of her hit song I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker

Sandi Thom was unrecognisable on Saturday when she made a rare comeback to the spotlight after years of flying under the radar following her breakdown online.

The one-hit wonder, 41, who briefly shot to fame following the success of her song I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker in 2006, made an appearance on The Morning Show.

She was promoting the remake of her hit single which she re-recorded and remixed with Australian DJ Harpoon in the hopes of ‘bringing it back to life’.

Almost 20 years after the release of her folk-pop hit, the singer looked far more edgy than she once did.

Her bronzed beauty and leather jacket was a far cry from the fair, bare-faced look she once rocked for her popular music video filmed in just one long shot.

Gushing about the newest version of the song which made her famous, she said: ‘It’s brilliant. It’s like a completely different version from the original.

‘So it was great for me to be able to go in and rework it and revamp it and bring it back to life.’

Sandi shot to fame as a one-hit wonder in 2006 when her debut single knocked Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy off the top of the charts.

However, her career failed to take off, with only two of her next 12 releases making the charts – peaking at numbers 22 and 58.

After years of slaving away to get her music out there, Sandi finally cracked under the pressure in 2015 when she couldn’t get her song Earthquake onto the radio.

According to her teary and explicit outburst on Facebook, the blame for that laid at the feet of those choosing the playlist for national radio stations.

She said despite specifically tailoring the song to the liking of commercial broadcaster Bauer Media and their audience, they refused to play it on the radio.

‘That is basically 22 million people across the country who will not get to hear this song because of one person’s decision,’ she ranted.

‘Honest to God I’m f**king sick to death of the bulls**t this industry pulls on people like me and I’ve had it. Enough. I’m done.

‘F**k you Radio 2. F**k you Bauer network and f**k the lot of you.’
