Jesinta Franklin ensured there is ‘absolute true equality’ between her and AFL star husband Buddy

Jesinta Franklin says she ensured there is ‘absolute true equality’ between her and AFL star husband Buddy to defy ‘gold digger’ WAG stereotype: ‘I can buy my own handbags’

Jesinta Franklin has revealed that having her own career, and her own money, is vitally important to her.

The football WAG, 31, who is married to AFL star Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin, 36, tells this week’s issue of Stellar Magazine that she wanted to defy the gold digger stereotype often applied to glamourous women who marry athletes.

‘There’s absolute true equality between Buddy and I – with financial contribution, with emotional, spiritual, mental, all of that. It’s very equal’ the model said.

‘That’s what makes me feel really empowered as a woman. I know it’s not the same for everyone’ she went on.

‘Being able to stand on my own two feet, being an equal in this partnership – in every sense of the word – is important for me.’

Jesinta continued: ‘I was probably more focused on that when I met Buddy because of that judgement of being a WAG, and being called everything – a ‘gold-digger’ and all of that.

‘I always say, ‘I can buy my own properties and my own handbags. And we can buy them together!’ At the end of the day, it feels equal.’

Buddy and Jesinta recently bought a stunning mansion in the Gold Coast hinterland for a cool $9million.

The pair are reportedly selling their luxury pad in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to complete their move to the Gold Coast, where Jesinta is originally from.

The AFL power couple purchased the prestige property, situated in The Carlisle apartment complex, in 2020 for $5million.

The news fuelled speculation Buddy was considering fleeing Sydney with his family.

Franklin left Hawthorn to join Sydney in 2014 on a nine-year deal worth $10million. He re-signed with the Swans for another season earlier this year.

According to realestate.com.au, the footy star and Jesinta have been eyeing up properties in Sydney and Queensland for some time.

Jesinta and Buddy married in 2016 at Mount Wilson’s Wildenstein Gardens in the Blue Mountains, NSW, after four years of dating.

They are parents to daughter Tullulah, two, and son Rocky, one.
