EMILY PRESCOTT: Former Chancellor George Osborne and Thea Rogers to tie the knot in rural Somerset town dubbed the ‘Notting Hill of the West’
Ex-Chancellor George Osborne is to marry his former adviser Thea Rogers next Saturday, I can reveal.
The couple will tie the knot in the quaint Somerset town of Bruton, the trendy bolthole that has been dubbed ‘the Notting Hill of the West’ thanks to its influx of well-heeled celebrities such as Sam Taylor-Johnson and designers Stella McCartney and Alice Temperley.
George – now chairman of the British Museum – and his former chief of staff Thea bought a five-bedroom Grade II-listed house in the area for £1.6 million in 2020.
Their ceremony will take place at the 14th Century St Mary’s Church and is likely to be attended by a string of political bigwigs such as former Prime Minister David Cameron and Levelling-Up Secretary Michael Gove.
George Osborne, 52, and Thea Rogers, 40, pictured in Mayfair, have announced their engagement
George, 52, and Thea, 40, announced their engagement in April 2021, with the former Chancellor saying at the time: ‘I have probably never been happier in my life.’
The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Beau, in July of the same year.
As I revealed in this column, their second son Arthur was born on December 30 last year.
While the little ones will no doubt play a role in the ceremony, the jury is out as to whether George’s older children, Luke and Liberty, from his first marriage to author Frances Howell, will attend. George and Frances divorced in 2019 after 21 years of marriage and George began dating Thea soon afterwards.
He announced his engagement to Thea – who recently said she would be stepping back from her executive role at food delivery firm Deliveroo – three days after what would have been his and Frances’ 23rd wedding anniversary.
A church spokesman said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Thea and George as they celebrate their wedding at St Mary’s, as have so many other couples over the years.’
Now let’s just hope the weather holds up…
Amelia’s summer of love
Lady Amelia Windsor and new boyfriend Oli Lewis
It wasn’t just the hedonism of Glastonbury that got Lady Amelia Windsor smiling last weekend, but also the chance to spend time with her new boyfriend, Ollie Lewis.
The Duke of Kent’s granddaughter – dubbed the most beautiful Royal after gracing the cover of society bible Tatler – was snapped cosying up to Ollie, pictured.
Amelia, 27, and Ollie partied away alongside Amelia’s older sister Lady Marina Windsor. Happy families indeed!
