England Under 21s will be looking to reach their first semi-finals since 2017 when they face Portugal this evening.

Lee Carsley’s side won all three of their Euro 2023 group stage matches heading into the clash with Rui Jorge’s Portugal.

The side come into the game off the back of a 2-0 win against Germany, with Cameron Archer and Harvey Elliot netting for the Young Lions.

As for Portugal, they come into this evening’s match off the back of a 2-1 win against Belgium.

The clash between the two teams will take place this evening, with kick-off at 5pm. 

This evening’s showdown between England and Portugal will take place at the Shengelia Arena in Georgia.

How to watch

While England U21s kick off their European Championship campaign on this evening, supporters will not be able to watch their progress on TV. 

No UK broadcasters have picked up the rights for the competition. Sky Sports committed to showing the 2021 tournament, which saw England eliminated from the group stage, but have not bid for the rights this time.

Fans will instead be able to watch the game on UEFA’s official website.

Team news

In England’s last game against Germany, Carsley made eight changes to his starting eleven.

With that being said, he is expected to bring the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Anthony Gordon back into the side.

Despite scoring against Germany, Cameron Archer is likely to drop back to the bench if Gordon returns. 

Both Levi Colwill and Taylor Harwood-Bellis were both rested in the last game but are set to return this evening.

As for Portugal, Fabio Silva is once agains likely to lead the line with Francisco Conceicao and Wolves’ Pedro Neto either side of the forward.

Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares is expected to keep his place at fullback for Jorge’s side.
