Tom Cruise goes wild over Sunrise host Matt Shirvington when he reveals he is a professional sprinter and is mesmerised by THAT video of him running in the Olympic games
Tom Cruise was very impressed when Sunrise host Matt Shirvington revealed he was a professional sprinter on Monday.
Matt, 44, was interviewing the American actor, 61, ahead of the premiere of his new film Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, when he revealed he had competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
‘As a kid growing up, I was a sprinter. I went to the Olympic Games as a sprinter,’ he revealed.
‘Wow,’ an impressed Tom responded as he watched a video at Matt competing at the Olympic games in a tight Lycra outfit alongside a clip of him running in the new movie.
‘I saw you run,’ he added, before asking Matt what year and event he participated in.

‘I went to the Sydney Games in the year 2000 and [competed] in the 100metres,’ Matt revealed.
He continued: ‘I said if I ever meet Tom Cruise, I’m going to ask him.. did you have any formal training? Did you have a coach? Because when I look at it, you’re a good runner.’
‘I’ve just been an athlete my whole life, gymnastics and I’d love to sprint since I came out running,’ Tom explained.
‘I was like that little kid that would get a new pair of sneakers and hit every puddle and you’re sprinting. I’ve had not a lot of training, but sometimes through the years I just get a little bit of coaching and I had different coaches growing up.’
He continued: ‘I watch people. I study and then I try different things on my own and I’m someone who I’ll watch someone and then I’ll imitate them and then I read about other people’s training and, and I’ll train with different Olympians.’
‘Well if you ever need a coach. Let me know,’ Matt responded.

The interview comes after the official trailer for the upcoming Mission: Impossible instalment was recently released.
The heart-stopping, high-speed clip showed plenty of action scenes with the Hollywood actor, whose film Top Gun: Maverick was a massive summer 2022 hit.
This is Tom’s seventh MI film and will be released in Australian theatres on July 14.
Returning to the sequel are Tom’s usual sidekicks – veteran Hollywood names Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby.
