EXCLUSIVE: Moment Jet2 passengers scream ‘scumbag’ at fellow tourist as he is hauled off UK-bound plane after he had to be restrained when he ‘tried to open aircraft door’ during flight from Turkey
- Flight LS124 was bound for Glasgow and packed with tourists travelling home
British passengers were left fearing for their lives when an ‘extremely drunk’ passenger allegedly tried to open the plane door during a Jet2 flight from Turkey to the UK, forcing the flight to make an emergency landing.
Flight LS124, which was bound for Glasgow and packed with holidaymakers travelling home from the tourist hotspot of Bodrum, made an emergency landing in Bulgaria last night.
After noticing what he was doing, passengers sat near the man are said to have bravely tackled him before the crew were alerted and the plane was grounded. Police in Sofia then boarded the airliner and arrested him.
Shocking video shows the man stumbling and appearing to resist officers as he is bundled down the aisle of the plane, while furious passengers yell ‘scumbag’ and ‘idiot’ at him.
The incident took place around 10pm BST during the overnight flight, and a passenger told MailOnline that they eventually landed back in Glasgow in the early hours of this morning with their family.
Police in Sofia boarded the airliner and arrested the man after claims he had tried to open the plane door mid-flight
The traveller, who asked not to be named, said: ‘A man who was extremely drunk and sat in the emergency exit row attempted to open the door mid-flight.
‘[It] looked like he’d maybe woken up and didn’t know where he was or anything.
‘He was restrained by a woman who was on her own and an elderly man in another seat.
‘I realised what was happening when people started screaming and shouting, I felt petrified for my children’s lives and everybody’s safety on the plane.’
Passengers feared for their safety during the terrifying ordeal, with worried parents and their kids watching on as the man was hauled off the plane.
With their family now safely home, a passenger said they are doing well after the nightmarish journey and praised the flight attendants on the budget airline.
‘We are doing fine now. Just a bit shaken up and thankful that the Jet2 staff managed the situation so professionally.

‘We landed back in Glasgow at the early hours of the morning today, and have no further information about the man in the video for now.’
A spokesperson for Jet2 said: ‘Flight LS124 from Bodrum to Glasgow diverted to Sofia Airport last night, so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded by police. After a short delay, the flight continued to Glasgow.
‘We would like to apologise to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused. As a family friendly airline, we take a zero tolerance to disruptive passenger behaviour, and everyone’s health, comfort and well-being will always be our number one priority.’
