Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson is set to leave the West Yorkshire club and join Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin on loan, according to multiple reports.

Aaronson, who joined the Whites last summer, will be returning to play top flight football in the same league as his brother, Paxten Aaronson of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Union Berlin will be playing in the Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the Bundesliga.

Across 40 top flight appearances, Aaronson managed to accrue one goal, three assists, and two yellow cards in over 2,300 minutes of playing time.

But fans of Leeds bemoaned the attacking midfielder’s lack of output after his $35.8m move from RB Salzburg.

Brenden Aaronson is reportedly departing Leeds United for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga

Aaronson hadn’t played a full 90 minutes for Leeds since a New Year’s Eve draw away to Newcastle United.

The Medford, New Jersey-native started 28 Premier League games and was substituted on eight times.

Aaronson is a versatile player – at home as an attacking midfielder, but is able to play on either wing.

He’s done that for the United States men’s national team on a number of occassions – where he’s bagged seven goals in 29 appearances for the USA.

With ‘Die Eisernen’, Aaronson will team up with fellow USMNT player Jordan Pefok.
