MasterChef Australia judge Melissa Leong reveals mortifying encounter with a fan at the plane toilets during a flight to Singapore: ‘Maybe not the me you want’

MasterChef judge Melissa Leong has shared a ‘mortifying’ moment she experienced on a recent trip overseas.

The 41-year-old food critic was spotted by a fan while she was leaving an aeroplane toilet during a flight from Singapore.

‘Possibly the most mortifying time to be asked if I’m me: Being followed down the plane by another passenger after coming out the loo,’ she explained.

She said the situation quickly got worse as she was neither looking nor feeling her best.

‘Half asleep, hair all over the place, no makeup with trackies on and having just gotten my period. Yep, it’s me, just maybe not the me you want…’

The raven-haired star added she was nevertheless ‘blown away’ she had fans all around the world, which made her feel incredibly ‘grateful’. 

It comes after it was revealed Channel 10 is on the hunt for a new celebrity judge for MasterChef Australia 2024 to replace Jock Zonfrillo, following his shock death on April 30.

And several world-famous chefs are said to be in the running.

‘International names such as Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and Shannon Bennett have all been thrown around,’ an insider told Woman’s Day.

However, the source added these culinary experts all have hectic schedules so booking them for the competitive cooking show was currently ‘a pipe dream’.

The network is also reported to be considering bringing back ‘heritage’ names to the series, such as original judges George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan, to attract older viewers.

Another expert being considered is renowned pastry chef Amaury Guichon, who is set to appear on the MasterChef spin-off, Dessert Masters, alongside Melissa Leong, later this year.

It comes amid rumours celebrity chef’s Melissa Leong and Andy Allen may move forward without a permanent third, as the Herald Sun reported on Saturday.

The publications claimed the cooking duo may instead go into the next season alongside a rotating roster of guest judges.
