Sunrise star Sam Mac furious as fans call for Robert Irwin to replace him

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac left furious as fans call for him to be replaced by Robert Irwin after the Wildlife Warrior almost ‘stole’ his job

Sam Mac has kept up his friendly feud with Robert Irwin on Tuesday after people playfully called for the Wildlife Warrior to take the weatherman’s job.

The Sunrise star, 41, shared a hilarious photo to his Instagram which showed a fan, Tara, holding up a sign that read: ‘Robert Irwin 4 Weatherman.’

He posed with the grinning woman and pretended to look furious with her demand as she wrapped one arm around him and proudly displayed her sign.

Sam wrote in the caption alongside the comedic photo: ‘Thanks, Tara. #Nemesis.’

The Channel Seven star’s playful feud with Robert, 19, began in July last year when the celebrity conservationist filled in as weatherman for Sam while he was on personal leave.

Since then, the friends have taken friendly jabs at one another over the coveted position, with the conflict coming to a head just a few weeks ago.

Sam took a cheeky swipe at Robert just last month when they had a chat on The Morning Show.

As Robert discussed his dangerously close encounter with a python in a recent video, he revealed Sam too has had ‘some close calls’ with the snakes at Australia Zoo.

Sam didn’t hold back when he replied: ‘The only snake I’ve had an encounter with Robert was you, when you tried to take my job on Sunrise weather.

‘You were a snake in the grass that day,’ he added.

Robert laughed off the jab, but kept the friendly feud running by saying he’s still hoping to replace him on the Channel Seven breakfast show.

‘Yeah, mate, I’m still gunning for that position,’ he added. ‘Watch your back. I haven’t forgotten.’
