Vivica A. Fox felt Will Smith was the ‘missing link’ to the success of the 2016 remake Independence Day 2.
The actress, 58, confessed that the sequel didn’t meet expectations as Will, 54, was missing from the film.
The actor, who is best know for starring in The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, at the time was tied up with other scheduling conflicts so he was unable to act in it.
She told AV Club: ‘I just didn’t feel like it was good and lived up to the first one, I really feel we missed out by not bringing Will Smith [back].
‘I’m going to keep it real — I was at the premiere and I was like “Mmm, let’s see how the fans are going to feel about this”. And sure enough on Twitter, they blew me up.’

Two decades later, the director Roland Emmerich made the 2016 follow-up film with the majority of the same cast apart from A-lister Will.
She admitted that she didn’t think the Sci-fi movie Independence Day: Resurgence was good, nor did it ‘live up’ to the original.
Vivica played Jasmine Hiller, the wife of Will’s character Captain Steven Hiller, in the 1996 Independence Day.
The original Independence Day, in 1996, was a sci-fi disaster movie made with tremendous swagger.
In the list of the decade’s biggest commercial triumphs, it trailed only the monster hit Jurassic Park.
Will is gradually making his return to starring in films after his career was put in jeopardy when he slapped Chris Rock at last year’s Academy Awards ceremony, shortly before he won the Oscar for Best Actor.
The star was recently spotted grinning ear to ear when he arrived to film a scene on the set of the upcoming fourth Bad Boys film in April.
