A shockingly racist one-star review of a popular Sydney restaurant has been left visible online despite desperate efforts to have it deleted.

An angry customer of Hurricane’s Grill Circular Quay left the review a week ago after claiming to be charged for tap water – a claim that the restaurant stridently denies.

In the vile review, the customer wrote: ‘The ugly Indian girl made us pay $7 for tap water, and the steak was tough.

‘Clearly the owner is Indian and they just want low quality with higher price.’

An angry customer left an offensive review of Sydney restaurant Hurricane’s Grill

‘Indian girl also kept asking with attitude, so disgusting go back to making samosa.

‘Even at Rockpool you don’t pay for water. So Indian, so gross’.

The popular tourist restaurant Hurricane’s hit back with a detailed written response to the horrific review, calling the author out for their ‘blatant racism’.

‘We take all complaints seriously and strive to provide excellent customer service to all of our customers,’ the restaurant wrote.

‘However, we must address the inappropriate and racist language used in your complaint’.

Hurricane’s said it did not tolerate ‘any form of discrimination or prejudice towards any individual or group, and we find the language used in your complaint unacceptable.

‘We would like to inform you that we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all of our customers and employees.

‘We understand that you may have had a negative experience with our service, but we cannot condone discriminatory behavior in any form’.

The restaurant urged the reviewer to ‘treat all individuals with respect, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or any other characteristic’.

Hurricane’s said it had asked Google to remove the comment due to its racist rhetoric.

Laura Goldberg from Hurricane’s Grill said she was in shock that the offensive review was still publicly available online.

She told news.com.au that the staff member mentioned in the comments had seen it and ‘couldn’t believe that someone would say something like that’.

Google confirmed to Ms Goldberg that it has reviewed the removal request but did not think it necessary to take it down.

‘Thank you for raising your concern. We have accessed the review, and have not found a violation of our policies. Due to this, the review will remain visible,’ the platform reportedly said.

Ms Goldberg said she was ‘appalled’ at Google’s decision.

‘Everybody is talking about mental health of people, but Google can blatantly say that [review] is fine,’ Ms Goldberg said. ‘It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Google for further comment.
