Mark Wood bowls FASTEST over ever at Headingley as England star hits 96.5MPH in Ashes blitz… and gets Usman Khawaja with a 95MPH rocket
Mark Wood set the speedometer flying as the England paceman clocked the fastest ever over bowled at Headingley.
England have been accused of lacking pace in their attack during their first two Ashes Tests, with the likes of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad toiling against Australia’s world class batting order.
As a result, Ben Stokes brought Wood in for veteran bowler Anderson for the Leeds Test, and he emphasised immediately the threat he possesses for the Aussie batters.
Wood clocked speeds of 91, 93, 95, 93, 94 and 93mph in his first over, officially the quickest over to be bowled at Headingley.
He followed that up with a delivery of 96.5mph in his second over.

Mark Wood has bowled the fastest over in Headingley history with an incredible burst
He bowled Usman Khawaja with a 95mph rocket in the final ball of his four over spell
Wood hit a speed of 96.5mph during his spell as he delighted the Headingley crowd
The 33-year-old recorded three consecutive maidens, applying pressure on the Aussie batters before saving the best delivery of his four-over burst until last with a major breakthrough in the final ball of his spell.
Wood sent a 95mph rocket towards Usman Khawaja and the experienced opener – who dominated the first Test at Edgbaston – had no answer for the delivery and it crashed into his stumps.
Sky Sports confirmed that Wood’s spell on Thursday was the second-fastest spell to be bowled in England in Test cricket. The record was set by Wood back in 2021 at Lord’s.
